We have just one more hell to turn out—the deepest, the blackest, of all; this is the worst book I have ever read in a lifetime of reading indiscriminately, and once more, I can offer no excuses for hashing through all pages of it. Amber marries him and continues her affair with both the king and Bruce, when he returns from Jamaica.
We are transported to her world her quick decision-making. The historical detail and context in “Forever Amber” is incredibly impressive, and Kathleen Winsor really does recreate this world and the vibrant, licentious pageant that was the reign of Charles II.
All in all, it was a well written book- definitely a harlequin romance novel! Apart from loving the plot and ,athleen loving the “evil” Amber and BruceI love how it sticks smber close to the true history of those times, portraying the restoration and reign of Charles II, the plague and the great fire of London.

Charles II is restored to the throne, Cromwell is dead. For me then, there was this marvelous love she had for this man who was always just out of reach I would mistakenly have said through no fault of her own. Bruce contracts the plague and Amber nurses him back to health before contracting the plague herself and being nursed by Bruce. Life did happen, but Amber didn’t change one bit. This is the book that started it all for me!

I loved it, but was given pause at the ending. Frequently compared to Gone with the Wind, Forever Amber is the other great historical romance, outselling every other American novel of the s—despite being banned in Boston for its sheer sexiness.
